I received the following notice from Officer's Mess of the King's Own Calgary Regiment this morning. Any of thos3e who will be in the area or who live within easy driving distance might find it very informative. "RAUSI (Royal Alberta United Services Institute) is one of the sponsors of the S3C conference organized by students at the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary. The 2015 conference will be held this Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, at the Rozsa Centre at the University of Calgary. The guest speaker presentations and the student presentation sessions are open to any interested observers. There is no cost to attend and advance registration is not required, so if something looks interesting, feel free to drop in. Guest speakers this year include: Francis Furtado (Friday 06 March, 0900hrs – 0950hrs) Presentation: “Canadian Defence Policy and the 2015 Federal Election” Professor Michael Zekulin (Friday 1300hrs-1350hrs) Presentation: The Sum of Its Parts: Understanding the Connections Between International and Homegrown Islamist-Inspired Terrorism Brigadier General William Eyre (Saturday 11:45hrs -12:45hrs) Presentation: The Canadian Army Post-Afghanistan In addition to the guest speakers, there will be a number of presentations from students of military and strategic studies from a wide variety of institutions, including the University of Calgary, the University of Lagos (Nigeria), Notre Dame University, University of Waterloo, Mary Immaculate College of Dublin, Simon Fraser University, and the National Defence University of Islamabad, Pakistan. The student presentations are often excellent. A draft program can be found at https://strategyconference.fil...ogram-2015-draft.pdf Please note that due to vagaries of travel and weather, the program may vary from the draft, but there will be lots of interesting content and opportunities to ask questions of the presenters. RAUSI has been a sponsor of this conference for several years as part of our commitment to education. As our motto says: "United through Service My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still. | ||
