I was shocked to hear of the violent death of PH Stephen Barber's son Devlin. As I understand it PH Devlin Carton-Barber was guiding two U.S. tourists on safari in Kruger Park in the vicinity of Mpumalanga. They had checked into a Guesthouse on the edge of Kruger Park, the two tourists taking one room and Devlin and his wife Jo-anne taking the other. As they unpacked two armed men emerged from hiding and invaded their room, presenting a threat to Jo-ann. Devlin quickly ran to Jo-ann and was shot dead at point-blank range. He actually died in her arms as the thieves escaped with her empty purse. Jo-ann was devastated, as is the whole family. There have been no arrests in the case. The two tourists cut short their vacation and returned to the U.S. Stephen Barber, outfitter and PH at Xomaqua Lodge, Limpopo Province, RSA continues to promote African big game hunting, although without his son and best friend Devlin. Our sympathies go out to the whole family. We will miss him. That which is not impossible is compulsory | ||
