Dad was in the Sudetenland with the 97th Infantry on V-E Day. Everyone was relieved, but the fact the war in the Pacific seemed far from over tempered the joy.
He would have been 99 last Friday.
He is on the right with three other members of the Medford, OR, High School Class of 1943. Just small town kids -- and heroes in my eyes. God rest their souls.

Our Walmart had a beautiful display out in front of the store yesterday when I was there for V-E Day. I should have taken a photo of it.

I remember that scene in "Band of Brothers", where they are sitting on some rubble reading the Stars + Stripes + one guy says, "Hey, it says here that Hitler shot himself". Another guy says, "Hell, why didn't he do it 4 years ago."
