Chopper Downed by Cow Elk in Wasatch County

A helicopter crash was reported in Utah by the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Department, and you won’t believe what took the chopper down.

The crash happened near Currant Creek Reservoir, and a search and rescue team was deployed to the scene immediately.

According to KUTV, two passengers walked away suffering only minor injuries, however, an elk they were trying to capture did not have such good fortune . . .

The team inside the helicopter was reportedly in the process of netting a cow elk, sedating it, and taking it back to put a collar on for further evaluation from a biologist, but the whole operation kind of went sideways on them.

Apparently, as the crew was hovering over the elk, it jumped and hit the tail rotor, nearly severing it.

Note: it was not clear if the "severed" was the tail rotor or the elk.

It was the helicopter that crashed, not the elk.

Authorities say a leaping elk brought down a research helicopter trying to capture the animal in the mountains of eastern Utah.

Wasatch County authorities say the elk jumped into the chopper's tail rotor as it flew about 10 feet (3 meters) above ground, trying to capture the animal with a net.

The two people on board weren't seriously hurt, but wildlife officials say the elk died of its injuries.

what they were really doing was planning on selling a butt ton of elk tags in that area this fall and they wanted to get them moved before they had their calves.

Kinda reminds me of the story a few years ago about due to the reintroduction of wolves into the Dakota territory making a great comeback;even to the point where they were doing damage to the local livestock. The ranchers were on the warpath to start killing the wolves. So there was a town meeting with the ranchers + some of those greenpeace types. The latters solution was to helocopter over, tranqualize + then sterilize the wolves. One rancher stands up + says,"Son they're not trying to fuck our livestock."

Never mistake motion for action.
