I heard on the news today that the fastest growing area + highest prices on homes nationwide is in the Austin, Tx. area. They claimed that housing is selling for over 7% of the asking rate. I can believe it from what I'm seeing around here. Never mistake motion for action.

Your esteemed governor was over here awhile back, poaching jobs. Apparently never occurred to him that he might be getting new residents along with them... TomP Our country, right or wrong. When right, to be kept right, when wrong to be put right. Carl Schurz (1829 - 1906)

I don't blame them for waqnting to leave but I do have a problem with them screwing up our property values causing all of us more taxes. Never mistake motion for action.

To a small degree. We each have our biases. There have been a lot of Californians moving here for that reason but that has no reflection on Texans not being able to do the jobs. Austin is the new "silicone valley epicenter" + the smart guys get the jobs. A good case in point is that my son has a high teck business in Austin that at the present has 49 employees. He is totally unbiased, the most qualified gets the job + so far he has only hired Texans; nerds, yes, but still Texans. Never mistake motion for action.

Actually this reminds me of the yankee influx of the mid 70s. In those days making $5.00 an hour at a skilled job was good money. Then those guys came down from Detroit, etc. + figured they needed $27.00 an hour because that's what they made up there just turning a wrench, or as they said, "We'll just go on welfare." I have no use for carpetbaggers of any persusation. That has no reflection on the Cal. evacuees except that they are bring their financial mindset with them + that is a problem. Never mistake motion for action.

i think their political mindset is much worse of a problem.

Both are a problem John + as we know Austin is an island of blue in a sea of red. I attribute that to being a university town, but for whatever reason it is very liberal. Never mistake motion for action.

Can you blame them? Actually, everyone has their own right in this nation (now) to voice an opinion. Personaly I never liked the (out of towners) bringing in their own style of rules + regs. We have done just fine.Tom ,I understand about your states issues, Califonia is a beautiful place to live (at least it was) My personal problem is Californians coming to Texas + paying (Caiforna dollers V/S TeXAS DOLLARS! A fair number are being transferred there by executives who themselves continue to live in high-dollar neighborhoods here. The Boeing move from Huntington Beach to Houston is an example, most of the wives said "...hell no..." and the guys quit and stayed here. The ones who moved were not the ones they needed to keep, they were the guys who felt drawn by the lack of income tax but not energetic enough to research property taxes. (2003-4) The company I work for opened two new places, one in Tampa and one in Dallas. Dallas was basically a computer room. Tamps is business operations. Quite a few moved from NJ and NY with their position and quite a few moved to take a new position. Some of those people were close to retirement and this gave them an opportunity to have their moving expenses paid. I can tell you the ones that moved from Long Island were very happy $$. I though about moving to Dallas but I stayed to take care of my father. I now have only a couple of yeas to go to retirement and there no way in hell I'm staying in NY.

Yesterday I recieved my new appraisal from Wilco. They seem to think that my property has increased in value $40,000 in one year. And yes there will be a protest. I suppose among other things that it offends me to have to protest formally to the powers that be to stop Fxxing me. Oh + BTW, they made it clear in large print that even if you are certified for open carry, no weapons would be allowed. No big surprise there! You want to steal folks' money, don't let them to come in armed. Never mistake motion for action.

I've tried those protests. Never won one. The only thing that worked was to move somewhere with lower property taxes. ~Ann

I've found you seldom can win a property tax protest without going through a company that does that on your behalf. I did a lot of research a few years ago and submitted a wonderful tax protest. Tons of comps. and support. I lost eight out of eight cases. I stopped protesting. They count on that I think. Last year I allowed a company to protest on my behalf. They would get 35% of any savings. I won seven out of eight cases. 65% of something is worth a lot more than 100% of nothing. I will probably do it again this year. I am waiting to see the 2021 appraisals.

Same thing happening in the Carolinas. Folks fleeing the NE. They sold their modest 3 bed 2 bath for 750k and can buy a patio pool home at a Dell Webb community on the intercoastal waterway for 250k. Demand driving prices up and they enthusiastically pay it. We just hope they don't bring their politics.
