Why gun owners are wary

By Mike Huckabee

If you want to see a perfect example of why so many legal gun owners are wary of those espousing “common sense” gun laws, this is it. It shows that the phrase “common sense” is often a misnomer for laws that make no sense when it comes to stopping criminals, but are a foot in the door to criminalizing innocent people who are legally exercising their Constitutional rights. And with the rise of the “progressive” movement on the left, such laws are tied up in the Alinsky tactic of defining and freezing the image of the opposition in as negative a light as possible.

The story is about a Virginia social worker named Storm Durham, who claims she was fired from her job with Roanoke City Social Services and escorted from the building by police for being a “safety risk to the building.” The reason: she has a legal permit to carry a concealed weapon.

So…did she have a gun on her in the building? No. She says she doesn’t even carry a weapon on some of her calls to dangerous neighborhoods, even though some people have told her she should. In fact – and here’s the real stunner -- she says she doesn’t even own a gun. She just has a permit to carry one, because she hunts and target shoots – and because she’s a survivor of sexual assault.

Let that roll around in your head for a minute. If the story is as she claims – I’d want to hear both sides, but she’s reportedly planning legal action, so I assume she can prove it in court – Roanoke officials declared her a threat and fired her for trying to protect herself from sexual assault by doing exactly what the law says she should do: taking safety classes to qualify for a legal permit to exercise a Constitutional right. If a Republican fired a woman for trying to prevent herself from being a victim of sexual assault, the left would accuse him of hating women and scream for his head on a stick.

And they wonder why anyone would be wary of proposals for “common sense gun laws”? For the same reason we’re wary when we hear, “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help you.” We know from hard experience that liberal activists who write laws have a very different concept of “common sense” than people with common sense do.

Fake news.

I plea with my fellow conservatives to fact check before posting garbage and sinking to the level of the left. If the time comes I'll be happy to swing a club with spikes in it at any lefty in front of me, but until then I refuse to respond in kind to their disingenuous, hypocritical, emotion-based hysterics.

Glad you cleared that up Norton. It is believable in this day + time (sad to say). I personally am more interested in truth than sensation.

Sorry, this came to me from a very reputable gunwriter. He said he fact checked it and I have no reason to doubt him.

I have mixed emotions about Snopes ( a husband + wife team to the best of my knowledge).Since I am somewhat cynical by nature I have a tendency to question ANYONE who has "all the answers".

Would their facts be different if they were right?

Either it happened or it didn't. Unless you have compelling evidence that it DID, their "left" facts are correct and the letter was right propaganda. Surely not.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

I don't have any "un named" sources, except that she has lied to the press already, and is, IMO, looking for a law suit settlement. "Middle" has nothing to do with facts. They are or they ain't. I remind you of your blind faith in your long term friend, who therefor, could not have been a thief, but he was. How close were those facts to the "middle"?

I see how you twist it. I guess you are a lucky guy to never had an acquaintance that was accused of something.
Charlie, I will start another thread about another long time friend of mine for you to digest.

I find it a curious fact, that the more left or right of center someone is politically, the more likely they are to fall for some BS story or tale that fits their agenda. I've got one friend who nearly daily sends me emails about how bad Obama is or was. Hell, get over it, he is no longer President, and I'm not sure we're better off as a nation now.

I too do not trust Snopes a whole lot, but regardless their leanings politically, from what I have experienced in my like TRUTH, lies somewhere in the middle regardless pof the issue, and in todays America very few people are interested in any narrative that does not fit their own.

To me the message is most important, whether Huckabee or Jim Froggie said it.
Maybe I will attribute it to myself next time.

It's become incredibly difficult to wade through the layers of horseshit in trying to get an accurate story these days. There's virtually no interest in accuracy by the media just volume and being first to report. Being a physician I hang my hat on being objective so the sensationalist garbage burns my ass.

Gato is right about the extremes. Sadly, I've been pushed further right than at any other time in my life. At this point I've become a champion of class warfare because the liberals hold me in contempt for being successful and still wouldn't be satisfied if they took 90 cents of every dollar I bust my ass for. Somehow they've forgotten that the world needs ditch diggers too...... and I can say that having been one prior to going to medical school.

My step father always would go out on trash pickup day to thank the guys.At 1st I think they thought he was having them on but he was sincere. He said without you guys where would we be? Took them out cookies at Christmas as well.
