This is a VERY touching video, actually a piece of film that has been made into a video, this is one that is NOT photo shopped, it's the real scene! Notice in the opening shot you'll see the gunner's position is all shot to hell while the pilot's cockpit ahead of it is undamaged. Later on notice the corpsman taking a fingerprint of the deceased gunner, before the film continues, then showing the chaplain saying the final prayers, followed by taps, then the sailors push the aircraft and our patriotic airman over the side and watch it sink into the distance sea. Here's one for a serious conversation with your kids. THIS WAS REAL! This is what 18 year old "kids" were doing in 1944. Worse yet is when you don't get to bury them properly because something else happens and they get buried their selves. When I was on the Independence we lost a few planes at sea. On one occasions the backseat guy was a guy I knew quite well because he was his squadron's legal officer and he used to come up and visit. One minute they are on the radar screen. Another minute and they are in the drink and sinking, never to be seen again. And yes, may they rest in peace. | |||

Very powerful and touching video that should be seen in every high school US History class. Fat chance of that happening in today's educational system. Anyway, as we used to say as kids, "what balls they had". | |||

Concerning those kids to today's kids; I think of Jeff Coopers quote,"The past is like a different country;they do things differently there." I have known many war 2 vets that are no longer with us.I even had the honor + priveledge to listen to my great uncle as a child about his life in war 1 in France in the trenches.Time is the great equalizer.Thanks for sharing that. A friend of mine, Floyd Ford of Byers Texas, died last week. He jumped on D Day +2; he said it was rough but the D Day boys had it a lot rougher. He said he always felt sorry for them. They had pictures of him at the church and one was a photograph of him in uniform and he was just a big baby faced kid. He joined the Rangers just for the extra 1.00 a day. Pretty hard way to make a 1.00. | |||

My Uncle Dick was in the pacific in war 2. He told of how on the ship homeone of his buddies who had killed 7 japs had decapitated them + boiled down the heads so he had these skulls in his sea bag + when the powers that be discovered it made him throw them over the side. He said the guy was crying like a baby + blubbering about how they made him throw away his skulls. Never mistake motion for action. | |||
