Anyone hunters out there? I had been out last week didnt find any. The night time temperatures are heating up around here, so they should be starting to come up. I'm heading out later today to check their progress, they should be in full swing starting this week.

A few years ago I picked a bunch of them in Idaho. I cooked with a lot of them while I was there and I dried out the rest and brought them back home. They lasted for nearly two years before I ran out.

They sure are good... Big Grin

This year has been horrible for morels. The lack of spring, the rain, and the heat have severely shortened the season. In past years I have found buckets full. This year, I have only found a handful of usable mushrooms. Im just hoping that the chanterelle's arnt a bust either.

Morels are a finicky beast. I have heard that some counties did alright. I talked to a guy in Trempealeau co., said he did fairly good. Also said that the season was really short. I am relocated to a bunch of swampy forests and oak savannas, as far as public land is concerned. I really think it has to do with soil composition. Around here it is mostly sandy soil. Its not bad for morels, just not ideal. I never did get to the family farm in Cumberland. I usually get a fair amount around here but I can always count on at least 20lb worth from those woods.
