In this country the accused is afforded due process and guaranteed a day in court in front a jury of his peers.

If convicted I believe the punishment should fit the crime.

I agree completely. Another anecdote from back in the 70s when we had the Yankee exodus down here. Not the same I admit but similar in the thought process. When I shot a neighbors dog for killing my chickens they took me to court for killing their dog. Long way around the barn but the judge's finding was that when a man kills vermin, I don't consider it his right, I consider it his obligation.

In Missouri we used to hang horse thieves. The horse was most people's only transportation. But let a punk steal a car today and he gets to go to the local "Crooks University". Then he learns better ways to hide his crime. I think Saeed's country has it right. Crooks should be dealt with in very well defined ways. Not coddled and given more rights than a law abiding citizen like in US prisons. I think for a capital crime there should be a maximum of one year to get the trial over. Then if convicted the judicial system should have one year to hear an appeal. If convicted the crook should be hung at high noon on the courthouse steps THAT DAY!
