The other "math" is accepting any answer as an answer is better than none.
I always ask those parents if they would fly in a plane that was designed and made by the "any answer "types ??

I have a history major but I have a metal shop as my profession. I use Geometry / math every day.Several years ago when business was thin I debated to shutting down the shop + teaching history in school. All my college buds who were already teaching school said good luck, that's the job we all want.So I still on a daily basis do my geometry in turning rectangles into circles, etc. Math is WAY too important to let students slip on.Our country needs that future of math people.

By the time a kid reaches 4th grade he or she should know what a derivative is and what an integral is and what a unit circle is, let alone whether the guy made a profit on a bunch of wood.
