Had an interview last week about a promotion for my agency in Champaign. We were dumb and turned down Stuttgart, Germany a month ago. Germany opened back up or is opening back up. Oh well. Some cursory research has me pointed to living in Mohamet, Lake of the Woods or Monticello Illinois. Seems to be far enough away from the new riff-raff that Champaign/Urbana has brought on from the problems in Chicago, St Louis and Louisville.

Il. politics suck it is ruled by Chicago. The further south one lives in IL the more conservative they are. Does the agency have a residency requirement. Do they supply a vehicle. How far do you want to compute. Heck I would look at living in Indiana if you could stand the drive about an hour. Straight shot on I74 For a firearms owner perspective I would stay as far from IL as possible. But heck you were looking at Germany. So firearm restrictions doesn't seem to brother you. Looking at the latest crime maps for the area doesn't seem to bad. I would say no worse then any similar size city in the US. Do you want a country house or a city house. Do you need city living or country living. Some very good deer hunting IL. could be hard to find a place not much public land.

Thank you that is what I had found as well. I am not seeing much in the way of 20-40 acres and a 4 bedroom house for sale for nothing short of $750,000 plus. Kind of outside my budget. There are some big developments with large plots in the towns I listed, and Montiecello is listed as having the highest number of police living there in the area. Being an Ex-cop, Ex-Fed and retired military I like those kinds of neighbors.

If your 218 qualified Il. laws will not effect you to much. 90 percent of my neighbors like having LEO in the area. The 10 percent that didn't had good reason they did not want one around.

Hr218 AKA LEOSA Law enforcement officers safety act. Allow qualified former LEO's to carry handguns in all 50 states. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/..._Officers_Safety_Act https://www.congress.gov/bill/...gress/house-bill/218

I didn't get the promotion. Which is fine, as I didn't want to live there. My wife is a city girl, she was hoping to get a bigger town. I am a country bumpkin, I keep hoping for a job in Delta Junction Alaska. I read through the 218, I am not sure if I would qualify or not. I don't think I would. I have 2 years of LEO time in 3 different agencies.

Being an Ex-cop, Ex-Fed and retired military Unless you retired from a military law enforcement career, It does not sound like you would meet the requirements.
