I will be heading back permanently to Southern Africa where I will be guiding in areas with little or no power.

I am looking for 2 items.

A good mobile power bank that I can use to charge my Ipad, Iphone, Suunto watch and GPS.

A good mobile solar panel to recharge the power bank.

Both needs to be able to be packed away in a backpack during overnight walking safaris.

i have used several of these peoples solar products and they are quite good. just decide how much wattage you need and buy a big enough unit.

you can even attach the panel(s) to the outside of a backpack and charge devices or a battery pack while you are walking.

Here is a link to the panel I bought locally from Jo'burg, 20W foldable which has given me good service. It is US made and a military quality product.

Martinus,

I will be doung birding, tracking and trails guide course with Ecotraining next year...

Most of the time will be in the Makuleke consession between the Limpopo and Luvuvu Rivers.

Tracking will be in the Selati reserve.

My last training will finish around the 10th of December next year and then we will see where I can start guiding full time.

Counting the days down between leave/training while working in the Saudi desert.

Gerhard.Delport:

I have Goal Zero Nomad 7 Portable Solar Panel. Yes. It works.

As a power bank. A good one (can also charge computer) is Powergorilla. Like it very much.
Link: https://www.powertraveller.com...sional/powergorilla/

They made also different power banks, just have a look at their website.

What I didn't try, but want are products from AspectSolar: http://www.aspectsolar.com/

Maybe, you will find there exactly what you need.

If you want something with a little smaller footprint consider:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ...i_detailpage_o06_s00

The 20 watt panel with their PowerCore 20100 is hard to beat - especially the cost.

Thanks,

I will be in Pafuri next week for 7 days and will then see what is needed and what will work the best for Nov-Dec this year in the same camp.

Having been in the booking business of over 40 years off and on, I don't believe I ever met Gerard personally but I do know him by reputation and he comes well recommended by a lot of folks in the business, and hunters who I booked for that had used him..
