Does anybody know a good resource on the net where I can read about splitting lips and ears of e.g. a moose? I might end up in the situation where I will have to do the field care of a moose mount, and I'd like to brush up on my knowledge..Never got that lip splitting thing worked out, and the time I tried the ears I think I overdid it because it didn't look all that well! Frans, You might check "taxidermyreference.com". You may find some information that will help you. Also, I would suggest buying an instruction video from any of the several taxidermy suppliers. Look at "taxidermy.net" and click on suppliers. from there you can find several that you can order your tape. I would also recommend buying a tool called an ear spliter. It will save you hours of time splitting those ears. They are about 12 inches long and are made of cast aluminum, so they are light wieght for taking them into the field. I use a scapel blades to split my lips and they work great for caping as well, especially around the eyes and ducts. They too dont take much room in your pack. Good luck! | |||
