How do you get the tusks out of the jaw bone without damaging them? I have read that you have to fill them with epoxy or glue afterwards. Do you have to hollow them out first? (novice at work here, in case you hadn't noticed!) Proud DRSS member

Put them is a pot and boil them. I add some dish washing detergant to the water as well. After a bit of boiling, wrap a rag around them (so you don't cut yourself) and push IN. Then try to wriggle out. If you can't move them then boil for a bit longer. Keep doing this and they should pop out. When you get them out give the tooth a good flick and the core should fly out. Clean the rest of the gunk out, dry and fill them with a epoxy or similar as they will split. ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I prefer maceration to boiling as there's always some chance of "cooking" the skull and having it crumble. I remove most of the meat and eyeballs from the skull and put it in a bucket of water filled high enough to cover it. Pour in a beer (or 2 packets of bakers yeast), cover, and let it set FAR BACK IN YOUR YARD for a couple weeks. With rubber gloves, pour off the water and pew, and repeat the process. AFter 4 or 5 weeks, the teeth will all come out or be very loose. Usually the tusks and whets have fallen out in the bucket. RETIRED Taxidermist

Thanks for the info! I'm not worried about the rest of the jawbone because I'm only after the tusks to mount them, so I guess I'll be making soup tonight Proud DRSS member

I'm going to try that method with the next pig skull I get George. I'll have to put the bucket in the bush behind my work place however, if I did it at home I wouldn't be popular with the neighbours ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin.
