Kill both the cats---any method. Dispose of such where wife will never find them. Act distraught. Run ad in paper with $10,000 reward so that wife can see you are upset and distraught that the cats ran off. Take comfort in knowing nobody will collect the reward. Tell her you were just so attached to those cats--no other could take their place. If she has different idea and gets more--poison them first day.Obviously they were sickly cats is why they were available.

I just picked up my bear rug from the taxidermist Saturday. I laid it out in the trophy room to see how it looks. I have been concerned how the cats (3 of them) would react to the bear. I had a bison hide in there for a couple of weeks until one of the cats decided she wanted to piss on it every now and then.

Anyhow, I grabbed the youngest and put him near the rug. He walked and sniffed the entire rug and when he was done with that he wanted chew on the damn ears. Needless to say, the rug is now put up in a closet.

My question: Is there ANYTHING I can get to treat the rug to keep the damn cats off? Getting rid of the cats is not an option.....my wife would get rid of me before the cats!

You might try a pet shop for some of the various repellants. They make them discourage puppy chewing, to keep animals off furniture, etc..

The one I used sort of successfully to curb chewing dogs, "Bitter Apple" would not be good for this since it is a nasty paste, but there are other types and forms available.

I tried bottled hot sauce once, in desperation. Dogs licked it all off, loved it. Didn't try any of the powdered peppers, which do seem hotter. A small amount of powder sprinkled into the fur might keep them from chewing, or at least provide a little amusement, but would probably haunt you later.

I have also seen small electronic mats that make startling noises when pets jump on them, such as when concealed under cushions on the forbidden couch, etc.. One of these might make sense for you, since it doesn't require putting any chemicals on your hide.

Dennis,

That as been suggested but I really don't like that idea either. I would rather put it in the closet until my 'shop' that I'm building is finished. I will eventually put several heads and such out there because I don't have as big of a trophy room as I would like. I really wanted the classic bear rug that belongs on the floor.

I appreciate the suggestion though.

TXPO, I know what you mean. I have mine on the floor but will have to move it to the wall for more space when my African stuff comes in.

There was once a thread about a "Cat Cannon". I can think of no better use for such a contraption.

A) Get rid of wife and cats.
B) Buy a round of drinks for the cats...I suggest Prestone anti freeze.
C) Run an electrical charge through the bear rug.
D) Buy a german shepard that hates cats and show him his new rug to lay on in your house.
