Is it possible to shoulder mount a Cape buffalo in a way that allows it to be switched back and forth between a pedestal and a wall? Thanks NRA Patron member

Probably. I've seen plenty of "wall pedestal mounts." They were done this way to hang on the wall but provide more surface area for viewing. For your plan, I'd think you would have to have the square tubing embedded for use with the base, as well as some hanging mechanism on the back. This might mean you'd have to stick the animal back against a corner when on the base or you'd be able to see the hanging mechanism. Reach out to Jerry Huffaker and see what he thinks.

Tygersman, you correct with your thoughts on this I had sent this to df06 in a PM As follows: "Sure it can, you have a few issues with it and if you can deal with those it will work. We use a Wall pedestal form , it has a small flat back on the opposing side of the turn. In it we install the welded support for the pedestal mount. Mounted on the wall you will have a small 1" by 1" hole n the bottom of the brisket where the pedestal post would insert, we have ways to help hide it, but that is what you would have to deal with when it's on the wall. When you have it displayed as a pedestal you will have a small flat back to deal with on the opposing backside of the mount. we cover that with black material or leather to give it a more finished look. And place that flat side towards a wall. The other option, a third one, if you don't wish to deal with either issue is have a custom welded bracket that would hang on the wall and your buff would slide onto the bracket just as a pedestal mount would." I hadn't thought of that third option - sounds like a nice solution!

My answer is yes it can be done. You could easily just leave the back of the buffalo flat with a board in it. Install a hanger and if you wanted to, just pull it off the base and hang it. There would be a couple of things to note, you would lose the artistic effect of having the back sculpted into a decorative scallop or arch and the hole in the bottom where the pedestal attachment is would show.
