Bill McHow about a lion?
I liked this one. This is Darrell McMicken in his showroom in Cartersville, Ga.

DPhillipsI hate asking stupid questions, but having never been to Africa, what's that behind the lion? Looks a little like a blond Gemsbok but the horns spiral.

RBHuntJack,
It is an addax.

Nitro ExpressDarrell has done mounts for me in the past and will be doing all our African trophies as well as my two hill stags (red deer) from Scotland.
He's a very experienced taxidermist who personally hunts Africa at least once a year. Darrel has won awards for his work.
Here's a secret about McMicken Taxidermy: his prices are lower while his quality is higher than other taxidermists--especially his African work!

No website.
I have been dogging Darrell to get a website but he is so busy he doesn't really feel he needs one right now.
If you want to call him, the number is 770-382-6232.

cengelI'm curious..... the addax is critically endangered, probably numbering less than 500 individuals in the wild.... How did he get ahold of one to mount??

Jerry HuffakerCengel,
There are plenty of Addax in Texas.
30 November 2002, 11:17
RBHuntCome on down to Texas, you can shoot all you want. The trophy fee used to be about $3500, probably higher now. They have pretty much been shot out in their native habitat. There are also arabian oryx being bred on game farms, they are almost extinct in the wild, same area as the oryx.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

SevensIs that a blesbok or a bontebok next to the addax?
Interesting comments on the addax. With this whole ban thing, I was able to shoot one for quite a bit less than mentioned above. Next to the first deer I shot, probably my favorite trophy.
