Doug PisanoNilgai mount suggestions???
Hi All,
Will be hunting Nilgai later this year. What kinds of mounts do folks get or suggest for them?? Shoulder?? rug?? Anything creative I should think about short of a full mount???
Many thanks in advance!

RELBATDoug: I think it's personal preference and space availability. My Nilgai is a shoulder mount and looks fine in my book. They are rather large and will take up a lot of space in a trophy room. People that visit my trophy room ask why such a big animal has such little horns? Some newer forms have an angled shoulder mount backing that adds a little flair to the piece and provides a different look. Suggest you look on line at some of the form brochures such as Research Manikin, etc. You may get some good ideas of other mounts but your taxidermist may have to experiment a bit as there are not a lot of different Nilgai forms from what I see. Good luck on the hunt--take plenty of gun, as these critters can take some lead.

Doug PisanoThanks Relbat!
That's the kind of opinion I was looking for! I'm using a 35whelen with 225gr TSX at 2700fps. Should do it I expect!

L. David KeithThey look good as wall pedestal mounts, and that appears to be what RELBAT is talking about. With their large body and smallish horns, this mount just gives them a nice look.

collectorShoulder mount with a slight turn would look awesome for a Nilgai....both as a wall mount or a pedastal mount.
Nilgai kind of remind me of Eland...the big old Nilgai bulls develop very muscular necks....similar to bull Elands. (Check out the pic of the Eland shoulder mount I just posted)
Doug please post pics of your mount when completed, would love to see it.

Bob in TXBe sure to post it when you get it!
Just don't do a European mount. You will think satan himself has moved in. Very scary.

Doug PisanoWill do...am thinking about a wall pedestal as suggested. I saw one in the on-line McKenzie catalog.
And don't worry...a euro is out!!!
