I just shot a great rooster, he has the longest tail of any rooster I've ever killed - 35 bars. If any of you have a pheasant wll mount you particularly like, please post a photo or a link to help me decide how to have him mounted.

I know you specified wall mount, but any pose can be made into a wall mount. A nice flying or just rising mount, as the rooster in the group below, would show off that nice long tail. Sounds like a fine rooster you harvested! Please post the mounted picture of him, down the road.

Here is one I had done a few years ago. I'll eventually have a hen added and the base redone with a more realistic look, similar to the one Mary posted.

Those look great, thanks. I just called my taxidermist and learned the finished product would be about $300. That's more than I had in mind. Anybody quality taxidermists you'd recommend that can do it for less including crating/shipping?

$300.00...WOW... ...that is really cheap for a flying or lifting pheasant mount! If your taxidermists birds actually look like a bird you would be proud to display in your home when he is finished mounting them,I would say let him do the mount for you.

Bird taxidermy can be very specialized. Many taxidermists send their birds out to a wholesale bird taxidermist, who does birds only. (We do all of ours in shop.)

If you can find someone to do this for under $300.00 with a base, INCLUDING shipping and handling, I would make darn sure you take a very close look at their work before you commit. As we always say, "In this industry, you get what you pay for".

Mary, thanks for the reality check. Ray Hatfield is my taxidermist, so I'm sure it would turn out great.

Ray will indeed do a fine quality mount for you. I need to call him about his pricing though!

Thought you would enjoy seeing this mount Chris just completed. Chris would have never suggested putting these two together, but the client wanted it mounted this way and I think it looks pretty good. He has a flying pheasant Chris mounted which will be lifting off to the right of the mount when hung on his wall.
