My taxidermist, Marc Plunkett of Wildlife Creations, delivered my mule deer mount yesterday. I killed this management buck in 2007 with Atkinson Expeditions in north-central Colorado.

This is a pedestal mount, but I still need to build the wooden base part in my shop. The base will be about 3' tall. The deer head is removable and swivels in place for proper positioning.

First photo is in the field. The other three are just quickies taken at delivery. Note the different positions in the last two pix.

P.S. - It won't remain on the dinning room table long, according to my wife.

That's a nice buck and equally-impressive taxidermy. thumb

I've not seen a semi-up mulie pedestal before. I knew they had a semi-sneak but I haven't received their catalog in 3 years either.

Thanks guys. Marc does good work.

Doc,

Not sure who supplied the form. I'll see if I can find out, BUT...do not base its likeness to anything readily available. Marc very rarely leaves them the way they are shipped. He usually takes a saw and knife to them to give them a unique look.

That would explain it a bit...it appears to be a whitetail manikin with a mulie head. I do most of mine that way as most mule deer manikins are a far cry from what a real mulie looks like in the face.

Quite frankly, the sculptor for Buckeye Manikins, now part of McKenzie, has done one of the better jobs on matching the face of mulie bucks. Unfortunately, the neck and shoulders are lacking.

My taxidermist is just about ready to mount my deer from last November. It's going on a whitetail shoulder manikin with a buckeye mulie head. If he needs to lengthen the neck at all, it will be done where the neck meets the shoulder, not at the atlas.

I doubt the form is one like your describe. I'm pretty sure it's a straight mule deer form but with changed angles, etc.

I'm also positive Marc uses clay to help shape the head and facial features, though.

Anyway, I'll find out for sure the next time I talk to him.

Pretty sure it's a Research wall pedestal form, sculpted by Mike Frasier, AKA Lonewolf, turned into a table pedestal.

We have the same form mounted up in the shop right now ready to be picked up. Chris had to do some chopping and channeling on that form also, as the form has some anatomical flaws.

Kind regards,
Mary

It could be just about anybodys form that has been altered, but it looks like a McKenzie Whitetail to me as well. I have never seen Mikes Mule deer wall pedestal form so it could be his.
only way to know for sure is ask your taxidermist.

Hmmm. If the pot gets large enough, I might demand a cut to reveal the form maker. Roll Eyes
