Those of you not using Ben for your deer (and just about anything else), are missing out....

Gotta love big mule deer, I know I do. Love the pedestal. Where'd the buck come from?

Where did you get the pedestal?
What kind of wood did they use?

Not a bad mount, other than the crap on the horns. A true artist knows when to quit.

Interesting observation, unfortunately he did not put anything on the horns, that was the leftover velvet that was on them when the deer hit the ground, or so I am told.

My brother in law is a taxidermist, but I would never claim that he is an artist.
Taxidermist start walking around and telling everyone that they are artist kind of bothers me.
If the form is allowed to get to subjective and obscure we will loose what I think is the point of the mount to begin with. To showcase the life of the animal and remind of us of the chase.
I don't like the cholla cactus, and I don't like pedistal mounts. But I am kind of a cranky old bastard when it comes to taxidermy.

I'll bet the person actually paying is delighted. My taxi has had people get mad for "cleaning it up". My deer had cactus stickers inside his skin and my kudu still had pepper ticks dip/pak/ and tanned in. I pulled 'em, but that is what I wanted. Artists get paid, so...

If you are the kind of person that gets their panties in a wad everytime someone says horns instead of antlers. Maybe you should find another forum.

Geez guys!! This is the taxidermy forum. I'd hate to see it go the way of the hunt report forum where posters no longer contribute for fear of a know it all trying to impress the rest of us with their negative opinion.
I wise taxidermist once told me, "Jim I don't criticize another man's work".
