SG, I didn't take it as critical at all. I thought it was a very good and valid question. We try to use 95% artificial in our habitats and seal all our earth with adhesive so it can be cleaned or vacuumed by a shop-vac without sucking all the material out of the base. We do the exact same thing with snow and ice scenes as well. My wife and I are both taxidermists so our house is full of wildlife art and artificial habitat. We have literally changed all our old habitat scenes that couldn't be cleaned. Truth is we learn from our own mistakes and try to make sure it doesn't happen to our customers. R&D in our own home... There is lots of new products on the market and new techniques are being implemented in taxidermy all the time. We do our best to be on the cutting edge. Thanks again for the input. DAN

Gentlemen, I was misinformed and I had my facts wrong. I have apologized to Craig and we have put it behind us, he is a fine man. I have deleted the offending posts. Craig, That LDE is beautiful and the pedestal is a work of art itself. Do you by chance have any pics of Nyala that you have taken that you could post? They are one of my favorites.

Uh, nyala is a really bad subject. Seems to be my nemesis!!!!!! Let's see. I took a good one in '79 (good for back then, 29"), still have the mount but it jumped off the wall during a CA earthquake and the nose is smashed. Took a monster (32+) in '91, but it came into the States with just one horn. The other was stolen, I later heard somebody bragged about it in a bar, but I have yet to learn who did it. I took a (very) medium nyala in 2006, have a lifesize mount but am in hopes to replace the horns with better. Failed last year in Mozambique. I wrote the story as it happened, it was also on TV, matter of public record: wounded and lost. Drew a 300-yard shot, on that day my ever-trusty .30-06 was three inches right, three inches low. It's a miracle (and a shame) that I hit it at all. Shot at dark, tracked 'til noon next day, jumped it in thick stuff, only heard it go--but sure sounded like it was fine! Is that a long enough way of saying, no, I don't have pictures? I will try again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers, C

Craig, don't let the jerks get you down. You do not owe that african chap one red cent! He undertood an ultrahazardous occupation, he was paid way more than the avareage african, and he did not keep the situation under control resulting in an injury to himself. You did more than any normal man would in soliciting some contributions for him, and the african should be very thankful for that. Just put the issue out of your mind.
