Bruce Gotcher of Brazoria, Texas consented to use the cape of my 2005 Eastern Cape greater kudu, together with a nearly identical set of horns found at another good local taxi., to put a kudu mount together for me. The original horns are "European" mounted by Taxidermy Africa (Humansdorp, RSA) and very dark as opposed to the natural color of the second bull.

The mannikin is via McKenzie's [NC via Caldwell, TX distribution site], a KU-50. The result will definitely make him part of the family / living room. Is this called a "sneak" pose?

Anyhow, should be drying in September and ready for pick-up before the temperatures "fall". I have had to hunt the second bull almost as hard as the first, so to speak, chasing down horns (replacement / synthetic vs. real) and the form -- Bruce is non-computer and Internet handy but he sure does good work. My whitetail looks like it is coming out of the wall as opposed to the "here I am dead on your wall" look for example.

Hopefully this will be a continuing thread.

Barry

Ready to paint -- almost dry enough today.

(Has a couple days left since it has been raining. Sorry the pix is poor -- used up old film in point-and-shoot that W-M developed and put on CD.)

Ready to go!!!!!!

Loaded up...

And on home to a still happy 49-year-old kid!

Thanks for sharing the journey, AR friends and guests of this awesome sight. Bruce Gotcher, you guided me well to this second bull.

Thanks, guys. It's so much fun! One reaction we get (usually from sitting on the couch to his right) : "He's watching me!" Straight on from the lounger is my favorite view. The smaller size / density pix for regular emails caught a cartoon on the TV. More the regular situation, like rainbows on mirrors, etc. for us.
