I just recieved a life size dall sheep cape back from the tanneries. It came back with quite a few blood stains still. Is there anything that you guys know of that will help get them out so the cape is white again?

This is one way to get'em white again.after they are mounted and dry.Use 20% peroxide and mix it with conditioner. take 2/3 of the peroxide mix with 1/3 conditioner in a squirt bottle and spray the entire mount and run a comb through it - let it set for 20 minutes then rinse it off with a water, use an instant normalizing cream on it and dry. You will see any areas you may have missed - just do touch up on those particular areas. Give it some time, a couple hours, after it dries from the first rinse before you apply a second coat (if required), hair may still be whitening up a bit. If you leave the peroxide on there to long or have it to strong, the hair will get burnt, turning it real brittle and it breaks easily.

For bad stains, before mounting... use 30% peoxide with clairol basic white ,mix per instructions. Apply mixture to hair with brush. I brushed it on with the direction of the hair first, with a liberal coat. Next I back brushed it a bit to get some of the underlying stains. Don't work it all the way down to the skin, you don't want it to burn the roots. The hair is hollow and brittle to begin with.Leave it on for around 20 to 25 min then rinse throughly. next you
want to use an instant normalizing cream...VERY IMPORTANT, this will bring the ph back to normal. Use a good hair conditioner then rince and spin it in your washing machine...with out the wife arround.
Make sure not to the peroxide on any of the dark tissue...nose...eyes and the like.
Remember whitening sheep is at your own risk.

PS...James Marisco [ sculptor] has probably mounted more Dall than any one alive, so you might get his two cents. these methods work well for us.

Good luck...Max
