Bear teeth preservation?

Hey all, I've got a couple of black bear canine teeth that I want to make into jewelry. I did take a hacksaw and carefully cut the teeth down to the size I wanted, but my wife insists that there must be something that I can put on the teeth to prevent them from drying out and splitting.

I say that the teeth are 10+ years old and if they were going to split, they'd have already done it. But, in the interest of familial harmony, I thought I'd ask here to see if there's anything that I can do before continuing on with my project...
