An Update to the Trophy Room
Just got a few new items in the room. Starting to fill up nicely. I estimate the room to be about 50% complete at this point with quite a few items in the pipeline at the taxidermist. I'm still thinking an addition will be necessary but by the time everything gets completed, it'll be while yet. I apologize for the large formats on the pics but something is going on with photobucket and each attempt to resize and copy crashes the system. Hope you guys enjoy it.

The last pic is an older one as the windows now have drapes to block the light.

Is that a tiger skin behind the Nyala?

Yep. An old tiger skin my wife purchased at an auction house over 25 years ago. It must be close to 100 years old and is worn, torn, and ratty. It's the only thing I've allowed in the room that I didn't hunt.

Doc, the pinkness of the elephant is dependent on how many drinks are consumed while sitting at the bar!! Big Grin

Thanks guys. There really aren't any stand out great trophies in there, just representative animals for the most part. I do have a couple of really top animals at the taxidermy, namely a monster leopard, the lion I took this October, as well as what we think will be the No. 15 Klipspringer from this October, but that really isn't the point of a trophy room to me. It's about rekindling the memories.

That old crooked horned Pronghorn on top of the other one was my very first big game animal. Took it on October 1, 1976 in Jay Em, Wyoming with my Dad as he had pulled me out of school for the week. Paid one hell of a price for being gone from the football team when I got home (Freshman in High School at the time) but I remember more about that hunt than the extra push ups and laps on the track. Every animal in there has a similar memory for me.

Todd, I've taken many great Antelope from Jay Em. Have some good friends there. My favorite western animal are the speed goats. Nice room, looking forward to seeing the big cats.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Caracal,

That is a RSA cat, unfortunately! Complete with the bullshit story they fed me to tell everyone back home. Mad

Suffice it to say that much has been learned since that trip.

How did you hang that zebra skin? What did you do in the middle? I've got one that my son wants to hang in his room. It's carpet backed so its heavy. It looks like you got yours to lie flat very nicely though.

It's actually not as flat as it appears in the pictures but it's not bad. I used furniture type studs or tacks just pushed into the sheetrock. I had my wife and one son helping stretch and hold it while tacking it in place. We just tried to iron it out as best we could as we went along but it isn't completely flat, especially on the bottom. The top half is better.

I have a question for you guys however. Do any of you have a zebra skin on the floor and if so, has it held up well with traffic on it. I'd like to put another one on the floor in the center of the room, then on top of it, a coffee table made from an elephant ear with a map of the African countries painted on. Just wondering how well the Zebra would hold up.

They hold up very well todd, i have one thats been walked on for years and the wear on it is minimal.
