FRANKIE2000Hooded Merganser
I shot a nice drake hooded merganser over the weekend and I am looking at getting it mounted. What I am wondering is if any of yall out there have any mergansers mounted and if so could you post a picture of it so that I can get some inspiration on how I would like to get mine done. This will be my first waterfowl that I have had done and I want to make it a good one.
Thanks in advance.

meteCan't help you there but I did have one adventure with a merganser. One day I got a call from my neighbor - I think there's something in my chimney ,could you help ? I heard something moving in the bottom of the chimney. I assumed it might be a racoon. I opened the chimney door , ready for an angry racoon. To my surprise it was a merganser ,completely black with soot .I grabbed it, took it outside and threw it upward and it took off across the river none the worst for wear !!
Mergansers do sometimes nest in trees like a wood duck so I guess that's how it got into the chimney.Interesting birds , they dive as deep as 40 feet IIRC.

GraftonBirds are not my thing and I no longer mount them, but here is one. Merganser skins are especially oily and hard to clean. If you want to show off the hood, the mount will need to be standing or swimming.

FRANKIE2000Thanks guy those are both great and give me some good ideas. The tough part is always trying to decide how to get something mounted because it is like a tattoo once you get it it is really hard to change it. I will be glad when somebody figures out a way to mount thing so that they are posable. That way if you get tired of it one way you can just change it up to a different pose.
