Hello;
I believe my taxidermist uses a Potassium Permanganate solution, which surprises the shit out of me, since it is a deep purple in color.

Various shoe polishes have worked well for me.

I have heard that some taxidermists use Liquid Gold, the wood working, cabinet cleaning/staining product darken and give some sheen to dry and sun bleached antlers.

while not a direct answer, I have boiled chewing tabacco to darken shed antlers when making buttons/handles
