I thiught I'd start a new thread on this one. I had a bear tanned but the tanner tanned it for a rug...I should have asked if there was a difference. Well anyway my question is, is there a different tanning method when a pelt is going to be used to make clothing items out of. I intend to make a buffalo "great coat" some day and don't want to have the tanning done wrong.

I have a book: "Chemistry of Tanning Processes", by Academic Press........covers absolutely everything imaginable in tanning. If you want pics of Table of Contents, let me know.
Book is 15.00 plus postage.

I'm guessing but I would think tanning is tanning, the thickness of the finished hide may make the biggest difference in how it is used.
