Wildlife GalleryCape buffalo ... Mean 'n Ugly !
Guy's,
First let me say "Thank You" for your kind words with regard to Ron L 's leopard mount. We work hard to try and get it right and with cats, in particular, it never seems to quite get there!
Here is a buffalo we have just completed, we completed the mount in 7 weeks and I think it looks pretty good.
Can I please ask your opinions on this one because on my trip to Africa I did not get to see many,so I would value the opinion from the "dagga boy" men on AR !!
Please let me know what we should and could change ..
Thanks for your time ,
good hunting Dan Catlin

JohnHuntVery nice. Now if you would just rub a bunch of mud on the face and bosses it would be perfect.

Jerry HuffakerNice mount Dan, You need to post mount pictures in the Taxidermy forum. If you don't they will get sent there anyway.

Can you give the dimensions of that entire mount from base to top and front to back?

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Wildlife GalleryI'll have to get the size for you when I get back to the shop tomorrow. As for the mud on the boss and the animal - I agree...Sometimes tough to talk the customer in to that one. The pedestal horn is a scale reproduction that we can do in bronze color, which I'm a fan of, or the traditional black. We will be doing a little different wood base on the next one and I'll share the pics later...

James CardwellEXCELLENT!!!!!!!! One of the most natural looking mounts of a cape buffalo I've seen. Well done. JC
Excellent!
Besides the mud, the only way to improve it would be some animatronics to make it chew some "long grass," snort steam, and do the death bellow.
I like the idea of a bronze pedestal horn instead of the faux natural.
Museum stature there.

BOWHUNRDan,
The Buffalo is outstanding, but I have to say that Leopard of Ron's was way over the top. I go to Zim next May and if I score on Mr. Spots YOU WILL be doing it.

L. David KeithGreat looking work Dan. Rare to see this look/finish on a Buffalo but very authentic. I'm a fan of the dirty look as well, but as you mention, that's something difficult to talk a client in to.
Cheers,
David

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
Dan
That is bloody fantastic!!!!!!

It is really good to see something new in the taxidermy world as it tends to become stale so offten and I take my hat off to you because you have made a animal into an art form with that mount and I will keep that in the back of my mind for my next dugga boy... thanks
