What do I need to mount a boar head? I rang a taxidermy supplier here in Australia to get a list and price's but I have not heard back. Could anybody out there that knows give me a list of the things I would need? Thank you Bakes

That is not a question that can easily be answered! It's kinda like asking, "How much does it cost to build a building?" There are way too many variables. Are you going to tan the hide, have it tanned by a commercial tannery, or us a dry preservative powder (VERY BAD idea!)? I assume it will be a shoulder mount but do you want a wall mount or pedestal mount? What size is your boar (length between front corner of the eye to the tip of the nose and circumference of neck)? What direction do you want it turned on the wall? What grade of eyes do you want to use and what size? Are you going to use earliners or bondo for the ears? What type of hide past - dextrine based or epoxy based? Do you want to use the molded mouthpiece or the standard one? Real or reproduction tusks (reproduction is highly recommended)? Real nose or reproduction nose (reproduction gives more accurate detail). Do you want to fill-in work on the mount with wax or epoxy? For painting, do you prefer lacquer based or water based paints? Hopefully you see that it can be pretty complicated for a beginner. I highly suggest you checkout taxidermy.net and look at some of the supplier websites. Some even sell videotapes on boar mounting that will answer a lot of the questions for you. Good luck! JDS

Thanks JDS I have watched a video on mounting a boar, and found it interesting, though the video I watched didn't have the items needed. I'll check out the net. Bakes
