I just got back my sable pedestal mount. The taxidermist did an excellent job on it, and I’m really happy with it, but as part of the shipping process there is still some masking tape on the horns. I’ve tried pealing it off, but it’s stuck on pretty tight. I really didn’t want to try and scrape it off, I’m afraid of damaging the horns. Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove the tape without damaging the horns? Thanks.

A soft brass parts brush and a little laquer thinner will take it off with no damage to the horn.

If it is indeed masking tape, the older it gets the less it will hold. In other words if you can stand to wait it will peel off easier and cleaner later. Might take a couple weeks. Certain tapes stick harder the longer they set. Masking tape isn't one of them.

Thanks. It looks like the tape has been on a while, but it's clearly not very loose. I'll try the soft brush and laquer. Thanks.

That got it! The tape is off. It took a little bit of scrubbing, but the horns did not seem to be dis-colored or damaged. Thanks again.
