If I were to shoot a blue wildebeest and an impala next year and not bring the trophies back from Africa, how difficult would it be to use horns from either animals bought stateside and have them modified to match the ones on the animals I shot? What measurements would be helpful/required by the taxidermist to replicate the horns on the original trophies?

Don't want to pay the dip/pack/shipping (done that before), but would like to have a little more than just photos, hence my question.

I "think" it would end up costing you more than if You have the horns and skull sent to you from Africa...I think your plan would open a big ole can of worms, but better ask a taxidermist first of all..I may be wrong..

Ive had tusks from elephant copied in Africa but they used the originals to make the mold..

Sevens,

If you can get the trophies from the field to an African taxidermist for low/no cost just have Euro mounts done there. No dip and pack fees because they're finished trophies.

Euro mounts cost about $100 each and tanned flatskins were cheap (Bushbuck $40, Wildebeest $80) in RSA when I did it there in 2013. The shipping cost for a box of four Euro mounts and the tanned flatskins from RSA was about $300-$400 to California.

Try eBay, buying what looks like your own photos of your trophies. Modifications are prohibitive. Duplicates made (from someone who paid for the original form/mold) might be available from taxis. Frank is usually right, so...
