Where on the web would be the best place to see finished taxidermy mounts? My african trophies are due in shortly and I would like some taxidermy work to look at for ideas.

I had the same issue with my first trophies, so I began collecting pictures from these boards and taxidermy websites. What trophies are you expecting, I'll post some pictures of those for you to look at.

Do you have a taxidermist that you use?

I would start by asking him for ideas and photos first.

Howdy,

One suggestion I can give is if you are interested in the higher end lifesize type mounts. Don't go looking for pictures of completed taxidermy work and take those to your taxidermist but look for pictures of actual wild animals. Once you find a photo of a live animal doing something interesting in a pose you like take that to your taxidermist and tell him to match it. Very often when photos of mounts are provided to a taxidermist the taxidermist recognizes flaws in the work pictured. When the mount is completed it can actually become a situation between client and taxidermist over which was the correct way of doing the mount. With photos of live specimens in natural poses these situations are avoided plus the client typicaly gets a very unique piece specificly designed for his home.

Good luck.

I would spend some time going through this forum. There are many pages here with some very unique mounts. You can also just "Google" what you are looking for........

Congrats on your hunt!

JTEX;

Good to plan ahead! Designing mounts to show off the unique characteristics of each specific animals and or fitting them into your home or trophy room in a balanced and attractive manor can greatly effect the end result.

Here are a few photos and pages you can use as reference.

Arican game

Sam's mounts

Clays mounts

Check under either YAHOO or GOOGLE Images, and your topic. It will give you hundreds of photos of the desired animals and a lot of them will be finished mounts. Also, the live shots help you decide on your specific pose.
