Over the weekend while staying with Jaco Human in Centurion, we made a stop at Andre von Rooyen's taxidermy shop. Andre did my Eland shield mount last year and it was nice to be able to visit the shop where some of my own trophies were done. I got the individual guided tour by Andre himself and saw some of the ongoing projects: a bird diorama for Peter Flack, a 6 meter (yes, six meters!) crocodile that Andre is wondering how to set up (there aren't too many 6m moulds), a herd of porcupines all in one room and of course all the usual "bigger than mine" plains game animals like 64 inch kudu. The porcupines are great, I wish I had had a camera with me. It is a great side trip if you have an afternoon or a day in Johannesburg and I recommend it to everyone who is wondering what to do with a short time in the Joburg area. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim. | ||
