i have a whitetail skull that i want to turn into a european mount. what do you guys use to make sure the cut is perpendicular to the skull cap? sawzall? bandsaw? bone saw? other? i am not sure where i am going to cut it yet, under the eye or over, but i have a full upper skull, and don't want another. i just dont want to hack up the skull to the point where it's just another skull cap. any advice would be great, thanks! You can cut it with a woodsaw. I use a Dewalt reciprocating saw. You can start cutting on the bridge of the nose and cut through the center of the eye socket and out to the back of the skull. This looks nice. As far as making the cut straight set the skull on a table with the teeth on the table top. Get something the correct thickness like a peice of wood or a book and lay it along side of the skull. Now take a magic marker or pencil and run it around your skull using the object (book or wood) as a reference line. This will give you something to keep your cut straight. If your good at cutting with a saw you can just eyeball it Best wishes Steve

Many of the hunters in Europe prepare their own shield mounts and a special skull holder and saw guide is available from most of the hunting stores. Here's an example. http://www.s-d-n.fr/catalogue/fiche.php?id_catalogue=538 _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

I use a special jig for cutting roe deer, and I guess you can get similar ones for different animals, or make one yourself. It does make it easier to get a nice result. For bigger animals I just use a woodsaw carefully.. Added a pic.. Normally I cut them right through the eyeball. I mount a lot of animals for other hunters and some wants the cut under the eyesocket though so this is up to you..
