I'm going to build an octagonal pedestal for a mount I have coming from NM in about 12 months.

How high? Width?

I would make an octogan, 16 X 16 X 32. You can make it wider if you like, I don't like over powering pedestals, you want the attention on the mount not the ped. 18 wide would be OK but don't go any larger.

For what it's worth, I would interject that if the mount is done in a more upright pose, such as the photograph above, a narrower base such as the 16" is perfect. If you mount is done in more of a lower pose such as a sneak, I would go with a wider base to balance to look of the mount.

Just my $ .02 . . . adjusted, of course, of inflation.

Jds is correct, if the head position isn't as upright, a bigger base will be better balanced. This one is 18" wide.
