Gentlemen what is the best way to clean a deer mount? I recently picked up a whitetail mount that has hung in my parents house for approx 15 yrs. My mother smoked and there appears to be a yellow cast on the hide and antlers. I am guessing that it is bulid up from years of smoke.
It there any cleaner out there that might work to clean it up? Cleaning the antlers should not be that difficult, but the hide is something else.
Thanks

Without seeing this deer and knowing if the skin was tanned or just dry preserved, it is not possible for me to be much help to you. I would recommend that you take it to a taxidermist.

Long term smoke damage is bad. Often the best solution is to get another cape and have it re-mounted. Tanned skins can often be shampooed and rinsed to clean them but do not try this if you do not know what you are dealing with. It could fall apart on you. Also consider the quality of the mount. Even if it could be cleaned up, will you then just have a cleaner looking poor looking mount? If this mount has sentimental value do yourself a favor and have a professional evaluate it.
