Basically, I use jds's approach, but maybe even easier. After I scrape off any flesh, I then stretch it (use stainless steel pins) just how he said (I find a piece of styrofoam easy to use) and THEN put on the glycerin/alcohol mixture. I paint it on about every 12 hours until it is no longer absorbed. Then, it's basically done except for trimming or whatever is wanted.
