Hello All: If anyone would happen to know when Clearfield Taxidermy, Clearfield, PA, went out of business, I would appreciate knowing. TIA

Thanks, Dad, for taking me into the Great Outdoors.

I'm not sure exactly when they went under, but I can tell you that back in about 1987, when my wife and I traveled to Pennsylvania to visit them, we were told by the locals they hadn't been there for a few years. Much to my disappointment!

When I began in Taxidermy I had ordered several headforms and a couple of lifesize mannikins from them, as well as had some tanning done when Sinclair Clark worked there.

It's been a while since they were around.

Hope this helps some.

John.

John: Thanks for the reply. I believe you might be referring to the Clearfield Furs division, which was located in a large building in downtown Clearfield. They shut down earlier than the taxidermy shop, which was located in a small building in the middle of a residential area on the northern side of town.

I know the taxidermy shop was open in March of 2003, as I picked-up a mount from them then. At the time, the gentleman who was running the shop did not paint a pretty picture for the business. He said that, although billings were up, the liability insurance was killing them - even though they had never had a claim. I am just curious as to how much longer they were in business. When I was a kid, visiting that shop was a treat beyond belief!

Nope, in the instance I wrote about, I was referring to Clearfield Taxidermy Supply Company ... I see I didn't make that point. I had no idea the Taxidermy studio was still around in 2003! They were one of the country's oldest established firms. That would be a shame if they went under!

Anyway, an interesting thread! It would be nice if anyone else knew more on their whereabouts ... if any!

John.
