Good taxidermast in Namibia
Am off to Namibia in close to 6 weeks for a plainsgame hunt. Am bringing 4 hunting buddies with me. None of us have ever hunted in Namibia and will appreciate any recommendations ( and the opposite ) from you all.

You will save some $$ on the taxidermy bill, but you won't like the cost of shipping mounted trophies home. Think very carefully before you decide, it can make a difference to your budget and end result on the wall.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

After tried 3 different "TOP" taxidermist in Africa I can say this. They do good average work. But if you want TOP quality pieces with VERY good details in ears/eyes etc send it to America to a recommended guy/girl. Im sending my 2 leopards to a top taxidermist in US and im living in Sweden Smiler JMO

It is always a balance, I have my home in Denmark, and there are a few good taxidemists there. Have also had some done in RSA and Zim over time. Though the best I have had done came out of Canada and NZ respectively.
The guys coming along are on their first or second African hunt.
A few yeas ago I was told of a good Namibian taxidermist, but can't find my notes on who it was.
An additional question - I'll hunt, amongst others, an Ostrich - what is the "trophy" from an Ostrich.

Jan, in Denmark are you using Diana? I have not used them before but I'm thinking of letting them try next time.

No, I have used a guy called Aage Dahl, a one man shop, but he has done excellent work on Muskox, Muntjac, Chamois and more.
But there are a others too that do great work in DK

huntfish, as a rule, most will have Ostrich skin tanned into leather, then have things made of the skin, as in boots, belts, wallets, purses, etc. On occasion, some will have their bird mounted lifesize. You can of course have a shoulder mount done, with wing feathers on each side. This is a hanging mount. Most just tanned the skin and save feathers.

Let me give you my advice, I've hunted namibia extensively taken more than 20+ species there.

Reiser Taxidermy in windhoek, a guy named Wilco runs it. Big operation, but things are done 1st class. It isn't cheap. If you shoot anything that you want flat-tanned: rugs, hides etc...get him to do it. Saves tons on weight, and they do a great job. All shoulder mounts should be prepped and shipped raw, mounted here in the states.

Again he's not cheap, but I've never had a single issue with any trophy parts, and I've had 45+ animals processed by him.

+1 on Wilco Pascheka and Reiser in Windhoek. Great work and the flat skins, sewn rounds, back skins and zebra rugs are all first class. They do taxidermy also but I have always used them for prep and flat work, then done my mounts over here in the States.

If you decide to have your work done in Namibia then you would have to go a long way to beat the work done by Namib Taxidermy IMHO.

Been travelling due to work, sorry for the late repies.

Thanks to all - the input is most appreciated. It seems the general consent is to have the flat skins / rug mounts done in Namibia and have the shoulder mounts done "at home".

Keep the advise coming - thanks.
