This is the first pelt (deer) I have tanned. Have used Lutan F kit from Vandykes and the procees with hair on was going great. I dried it stapled flat to plywood then put it in the clothes dryer with no heat to break it hoping it would make it real soft. I had it in there for about an hour and it did make it much softer. Problem is, when you lay it hair side up, wrinkles from the dryer breaking are very evident. I have stapled it back down hoping to stretch the wrinkles out. What else do I do to get the wrinkles out (tanning oil and stretching again, dryer for longer, etc.)? Deke.

did you try breaking it a little the hard way ? i mean over an old harrow blade ( what i use) or something like that? when mine get a wrinkle in one spot i use the oil in that spot and break it over the harrow blade. hth. p.s. if you are wondering where to get an old harrow blade,i just went down to an implement and they usually have old one just laying around that they will give you for free. then you just have to mount it to something solid and just slide the flesh side of the hide over it . in a back and forth motion . don't be afraid to get a bit violent with it. that lutan does a good job of making leather thats pretty tough

a harrow is like a plow and an implement is where you go to buy tractors and other farm equipment. just tell them you need a disk blade . they will know what you are talking about. sorry about that, i just assume sometimes that every one knows what i'm talking about. where at in colorado? i was raised in commerce city.
