If you can avoid boiling,all the better. What I use when a customer brings in an ol' set from years gone by, I will place the skull cap in a tub with just enough warm/hot water to cover the cap & add Borax to it. The Borax not only acts as a cleaning agent, but also safely softens the dryed on scalp. Plus it also helps to prevent bugs from embedding in your trohpy.
