Since my very first mount will be coming home from the taxidermist on thrusday I decided I should clean my mounts I already have (I got them from a friend before I was into hunting). Upon doing so I found a few "shells" of what looked like dermestic beetle larvae in the ears. I quickly wrapped the mounts (2 shoulder mounts) in plastic bags (and taped off the openings) and took them to the garage. I then inspected the skulls of an eland and a sable I have. The sable looked fine, but I did find a live dermestid larvae on the eland (the skulls were never professionally cleaned). Those are now sitting out in the backyard. I've vacumed the room, but what can I do to get rid of these bugs from my room and the mounts? I heard of freezing the mounts, but I don't have a big enough freezer. (I do have a small alligator head thats covered in some sort of lacquer that I wrapped up and put in the freezer. He'll be there for a few days, though I doubt they'ld eat him with all that lacquer stuff on him. It was a gift for me - one of those gators you get at a souvenir shop.) I figure I'll call the taxidermist to see what he can do, but if nothing can be done for the mounts I will get rid of them. What I'm really worried about is the room. I want to bring my mount home, but not with the chance of it being eaten by a beetle that might still be running around. So what can I do? All help is appreciated. Sevens | ||
