Outdoor Euro Mounts

I am just finishing a pool and want to put some euro mounts outdoors - eland, waterbuck, impala.

I will probably use only the horns and a bit of the skull.

Has anyone put horns/skull outdoors? Good chance they get an occasional soaking from a Florida thunderstorm.

I will need to change the wood base to teak - any other recommendations for wood base?

Thanks

A have a few out around my back porch. I realize you don't really have a winter, but that did take a toll on mine. Also, squirrels gnawed on them a bit. If the horns start looking really dry, I understand you can just spray them down with WD40, and it really helps bring them back. That being said, I think it is a cool addition to an outdoor space that most people don't utilize.

I tend to think they will not fare well in the FLA humidity, but that's just a hunch.

I use old pick ups otherwise they weather bad. Keep them in shade away from sun

There's nothing you can put on them that will keep them from deteriorating, they will all eventually turn to dust.

I put up the eland and the waterbuck. applied some ballistol to the horns before i put them out - did a good job applying it evenly to the eland - waterbuck was spotty.

a week later the horns looks great - will finish the waterbuck horn this week.

I like the outdoor euro mounts - hope they last.

They look great! Really reminds me of one of the places I visited in Namibia.

I don't know how they will hold up in Florida, but I got the impression that they last forever in Namibia.

And if they do fall apart you just have an excuse to hunt some more....

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.
