Bugs eating my 'beest's
I have recovered the following critters from my taxidermy:

I have fumigated the crate with Permethrin fogger. I will comb out all the mounts and then spray with a Cyfluthrin, Pyrethrins and PBO combination with a 4-8 week activity level.

Am I missing anything?

Howdy,

Were the trophies mounted in the USA?

These are dermistids, (sp) they are a common problem with taxidermy mounts. They will ruin the very best of mounts even those done at the best studios. Safari Club magazine has printed several articles about this problem. It can be solved. Do a goggle search and you should find solutions and answers. The Millers Co. mentioned in the first post is well known as the authority in solving the probem.

Burn ALL crate wood and filler from foreign countries. Do not save this wood. You infect your home and there will be hell to pay. If the USDA finds out, they can seize your mounts and destroy all of them; then send you a bill. Fumigation is the best route. Miller's is one company that specializes in this process. Take it serious and get rid of the problem. Just goes to show how good "dip & pack" is with some foreign companies. It amounts to rob and gouge, then pack. It's rare to see this come from the US, and any shop with said insects should close until matters are dealt with.
Good luck,
LDK

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

I did exactly as I said above. Permethrin Fogger (dry type) in enclosed crate for 48 hours. Crate was stored in Garage in December never saw above 40 degrees so everything that wasn't dead was slow. It arrived with lot's of moth crystals so most of the bugs were dead. I used professional grade insecticide and wiped down the mounts afer combing and vacuuming them first also sprayed up into horns. Then onto a white sheet in the garage for another 2 weeks cold to see if anything emerged. Another comb and vacuum yielded nothing. Inspect weekly since and have only found one dead pupae that fell down out of a kudu horn. Found when I removed the horns to move the pedestal in my room.

Wood was disposed of after additional spraying. It was particle board and had no bore holes.

I'm pretty sure I got rid of the problem thank for the follow up.

Get some Pro-Tex from your local Taxidermist. Apply this (in the garage or outside due to the strong odor. It will dissipate in a day or two) once per year to keep them away.
