I have a friend who's son shot his first mule deer last fall and they are doing a skull mount of the deer by themselves. He asked me if there is some sort of clear spray that you would use on the skull once it has been cleaned and bleached to protect it. Hopefully someone on here can help. Thanks in advance for any response.

I've always painted them with a coat or two of white glue mixed into water to make a very thin brushable solution. Maybe about 1 part glue to 2 parts water, I'm guessing. This seems to seal the bone and strengthen it, and I have several skulls finished this way more than 20 years ago that are still nice and white.

A matte clear coat spray finish or the mentioned thinned Elmers glue both work well for this.
