Cracked tusks

This topic was posted in another section but I put the question here. How to prevent elephant tusks from cracking? My taxidermist said I didn't need to do anything. However, I live in Alabama and the humidity is off the chart. Any advice?

Isn't a tusk like wood ? That is cracks start when moisture disappears in dry air ? If so humidity is good dry as in winter is bad ,
