Most of the buffalo will have some kind of "damage" after boiling. I will go in on a soft boss bull and rebuild with a product called Apoxie Clay. It is not shiny and can be textured to match the boss exactly with a little color work. Just finished two bulls, wish I would have taken a "before and after" photo so you could see how well it turns out.
