My wife shot a fine waterbuck in Zambia last year and we are wanting to have it done up very well. Our local taxidermist has a deer that is done up with a wall mount pedistal pose. I would like that same pose for the waterbuck but he says only the old and less attractive forms are available. Does anyone have any ideas on where to obtain a pedistal pose form for a waterbuck that can be mounted on a wall?

I do not know of a commercially available waterbuck wall pedestal form. However, a wall pedestal form could be made from a shoulder mount form or a floor pedestal form without too much trouble.

You should expect to pay more for the custom work.

The folks here have some experience in African stuff and are damn good on US stuff. Here is what they suggested. Buy the front half of a full mount and cut away any parts that dont fit my idea for the project. What do you think. They say it would add about 200 bucks for the extra cost of the full form. Will that work out?

While it makes sense, it would be much more expensive to buy the half lifesize form and cut away what you don't need than to use the shoulder form and add what you do need.

I know it doesn't make sense, but the half lifesize form would cost the taxidermist considerably more and they would have to pass it along.

Good luck!

And so if you meet a hunter who has been to Africa, and he tells you what he has seen and done, watch his eyes as he talks. For they will not see you. They will see sunrises and sunsets such as you cannot imagine, and a land and a way of life that is fast vanishing. And always he will will tell you how he plans to go back. (author: David Petzer)

Just add what you need on to the form! Why buy all these extra forms when all you need is some plywood and foam, make it yourself!

Hell I added over 2 feet on to a hippo wall foam to make it a floor pedestal.

It shouldn't be that big a deal just to add on to the form

The owner's wife was the one working with us this week as her husband was in Canada with a group of bear hunters. He does all of the trophy prep for the group. When he gets back, we will talk.

biggameRS, do they have a website to look at?

lb404, I've got the horns and cape of my 2005 waterbuck in the garage while I ponder my options and I am very interested in what you end up choosing. Please post some pictures of the examples you are choosing from (if there are any!) and the results of your project. I am looking at everything possible and the ideas and imagination of the AR posters are what I am counting on.
